A Clinton man was arrested and charged last month after eluding police.

It was later discovered that the suspect had prior warrants out for his arrest.

According to a probable cause affidavit, 22-year-old Damon Ray Walker Junior was formally charged with eluding or attempting to elude a police officer and endangering others on December 20 after attempting to elude an Oklahoma Highway Patrolman on December 18 in Custer County.

The suspect had two occupants in the vehicle during the time of the pursuit.

According to the court document, the pursuit began when an OHP Trooper tried to pull the suspect vehicle over on a county road for not having wheel coverings, tail lamps or tags.

The vehicle immediately began driving recklessly, and went left of center across a double yellow line.

The affidavit stated that the trooper lost sight of the vehicle but was able to follow its dust trail. The defendant allegedly attempted to disorient the trooper by cutting donuts at intersections creating large dust clouds.

The affidavit went on to say that the vehicle went airborne leaving severe gouge marks in the asphalt. The trooper said that after the driver lost control, he went into a ditch, hit a pipe barrier and lost several parts of the vehicle.

The trooper would eventually end up losing the vehicle’s dust trail but continued to patrol the area. Not long after was when the vehicle was found behind a nearby barn, with the occupants inside.

There, Walker along with one of the occupants were arrested.

It was later discovered during a search of the suspect vehicle that Walker was driving with a revoked license. It was also discovered that Walker had numerous outstanding Custer County Warrants.

The affidavit stated that Walker told authorities that he attempted to elude the trooper because he didn’t want to go back to prison – knowing he had warrants out for his arrest.
