Multiple emergency personnel were on the scene of a one vehicle accident near Hydro Tuesday afternoon that saw a pickup leave Interstate 40 and plow into a building.

As a result, the accident hospitalized the driver, and a 5-year-old who was in the building.

According to the collision report provided by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the accident occurred just after 4 p.m. when 58-year-old Jimmy D. Sellers of Oklahoma City lost control of the 2021 Dodge Ram 3500 he was driving while traveling eastbound on I-40. The report said that the pickup crossed over County Road 1022 and struck two fences before striking a commercial building that was occupied by three pedestrians.

OHP said all three pedestrians were struck by debris, and that Sellers was pinned for approximately 15 minutes before being freed by the Weatherford Fire Department.

OHP listed the condition of the driver as being “ill” but says the cause of the collision remains under investigation.

Sellers was air lifted to Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City where he was admitted in fair condition with head and arm injuries. Troopers say 30-year-old Chelsey B. Thompson of Weatherford was flown to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City where she was treated and released for minor injuries.

29-year-old Ashley M. Adams, also of Weatherford, was not injured.

However OHP says a 5-year-old girl was flown to OU Children’s Hospital in Oklahoma City where she was admitted with arm and leg injuries.

She was last listed to be in fair condition.

Along with the Weatherford Fire Department and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, The Hydro Fire Department, Hydro Police Dept, and Caddo County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene.
