A Tipton man was killed in a wreck southeast of Altus Monday morning.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol’s collision report, just after 7:30 a.m. a 2016 Ford F350 driven by 45-year-old Jeremy Wayne Lamar departed the roadway into a ditch and rolled one and a half times before coming to rest on its top.

Lamar, the sole occupant and driver, was pinned for an estimated two and a half hours before being freed by the Altus Fire Department.

Jackson County Emergency Medical Services pronounced Jeremy Lamar deceased at the scene.

The cause of the wreck is under investigation. Troopers said Lamar was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

In a separate accident on Monday in Dewey County, an Iowa woman was hospitalized after falling asleep at the wheel and crashing into a guard rail.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, this mishap occurred 4.3 miles south of Vici just after midnight on OK-34 when while driving a 2019 Chrysler Pacifica, 84-year-old Vera Welty of Iowa Falls, Iowa fell asleep before striking the guard rail.

As a result, Troopers said Welty was flown to OU Trauma in Oklahoma City where she was admitted in stable condition with trunk internal injuries.

A passenger, 91-year-old Donald Welty, also of Iowa Falls, was treated and released at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in Elk City.
