A Sayre man is accused of possessing child pornography after his phone was found at a local thrift store.
According to a probable cause affidavit, 23-year-old Matthew Kyle Gilbreath received one felony charge of aggravated possession of child pornography after authorities began an investigation into the contents of a phone with alleged child porn on it earlier this month.
The court document stated that authorities were contacted on February 3 by an individual who had obtained the phone with the inappropriate images from an Elk City thrift store.
Investigators were told by an employee of the thrift shop that they had the phone for a little over a year, and had given it to the individual to use.
A search of the phone by the authorities would reveal that the phone allegedly had numerous inappropriate pictures and videos. The phone’s contents would also lead police to it’s original owner, Gilbreath, who told police that the phone was stolen in December 2020.
While speaking with the suspect’s girlfriend, she would tell investigators that Gilbreath allegedly downloaded inappropriate pictures as recently has December 2021, but would later delete those pictures.
Bond for Gilbreath was set at $100,000. His next court date is March 14.
