A Hammon man was charged in Custer County District Court recently after allegedly inappropriately touching a convenience store employee.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed by the Custer County Sheriff’s Department, the victim told the investigating deputy that the incident took place on the morning of April 3, when the defendant – 69-year-old Jerry Edwin Brewster – had entered the Hammon store and hugged the employee, which the victim said is not uncommon. This time, however, Brewster would allegedly touch the 22-year-old female inappropriately.
Shortly after, the victim said another customer came in and Brewster would leave the store.
The store’s manager would later contact the deputy and tell him that she had a copy of surveillance video that had captured the incident. That video was forwarded to authorities.
Brewster was charged with one felony count of sexual battery on April 11. Court records show he was arrested on April 14. Bond for Brewster was set at $10,000.
A preliminary hearing conference for Brewster has been scheduled for May 27.
