It’s in Kash Mayfield to be the best.

Elk City High School’s Kash Mayfield was recently named the 2022-23 Gatorade Oklahoma Baseball Player of the Year.

According to a release from Gatorade, this “award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, distinguishes Mayfield as Oklahoma’s best high school baseball player.”

Mayfield is also a finalist for the Gatorade national player of the year award, which will be announced this month.

Mayfield just finished his junior season as a center fielder and pitcher for the Elks. His 0.75 ERA and 9-1 pitching record helped the Elks baseball team to a 34-3 record and an appearance in the state 4A semifinals. He struck out 109 batters and allowed only 18 hits and 13 walks last season.

He also sported a .364 batting average with five home runs, 38 runs scored, 43 RBIs, and a .611 on-base percentage.

According to Prep Baseball Report, he’s the nation’s No. 33 recruit in the class of 2024.

Mayfield has volunteered as a local youth baseball coach, is a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, is active in his church, and has a 3.33 grade point average.

Mayfield has been offered a scholarship to play baseball at Oklahoma State University after graduating from ECHS next year and has verbally committed to the Cowboys.
