Texas DPS Press Release

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) seized more than 12 pounds of suspected fentanyl Thursday after a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper stopped a vehicle in Wheeler County.

At approximately 8:14 a.m., a DPS Trooper stopped a 2014 Chevrolet Impala traveling east on I-40 near Shamrock for a traffic violation. The Trooper then discovered multiple plastic-wrapped bundles of fentanyl in the rear quarter panels.

DPS Criminal Investigation Division (CID) Special Agents and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Special Agents were contacted and assisted with the investigation.

The driver, Jose Martinez-Cisneros, 26, of Hollister, Calif., was arrested and booked into the Wheeler County Jail for felony possession of a controlled substance.

The drugs were reportedly being transported from Phoenix, Ariz., to Riley, N.C.
