22 years ago the world changed after commercial airliners were hijacked and flown into the two towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, and into the Pentagon in Washington D.C.

A third plane crashed into an open Pennsylvania field after passengers attempted to re-take the plane from the hijackers who intended to crash the jet into what many suspect to be the Capitol Building in Washington D.C.

At the time, Beckham County Sheriff Derek Manning was serving as a Trooper with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, and recalls his reaction as news broke on the day all Americans will never forget.

Manning added that, although not given any special instructions on that day and the coming days after, he said most law enforcement were extra vigilant while on patrol.

The attacks killed nearly 3,000 people and instigated the multi-decade global war on terror.
