Oklahoma City, OK – Sales tax collections in several Western Oklahoma communities showed mixed results in the latest monthly distribution released by the Oklahoma Tax Commission on May 8, 2026. The figures primarily reflect local sales activity from March, including reported sales from March 16 through March 31 and estimated sales from April 1 through April 15.
Elk City remained strong with sales tax collections topping the $1 million mark once again. The city received $1,354,251.69 in this year’s distribution. While that total was down slightly by 0.9 percent compared to $1,367,391.57 during the same period in 2025, Elk City continued to post one of the strongest collection totals in Western Oklahoma.
Weatherford posted the largest increase among the area’s larger communities. The city received $1,149,114.73, up 10 percent from $1,043,770.70 a year ago.
Clinton also reported growth, receiving $551,896.95 compared to $542,499.94 last year, an increase of 1.7 percent.
Comparable Oklahoma communities showed varied results. Woodward recorded a modest increase of 1 percent, climbing to $1,120,120.45. Altus saw a 4.6 percent decrease, while El Reno dropped 6.4 percent compared to the same distribution period last year.
Smaller Western Oklahoma communities generally reported declines. Sayre saw one of the largest decreases in the area, falling 17 percent to $132,540.77. Cordell dropped 8.4 percent to $82,608.08. Mangum was one of the few smaller communities to post an increase, rising 1.7 percent to $52,758.45.
Statewide, Oklahoma sales tax collections continued to trend upward. The state distributed $252,316,484.41 this year, compared to $241,386,097.13 during the same period in 2025, an overall increase of 4.5 percent.
