A Weatherford man received a felony charge in Custer County recently after allegedly stealing a motorcycle in Clinton.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Clinton police responded to a call in the 300 block of S. 17th Street of the stolen motorcycle on the morning of August 9. Police spoke with the victim who told them that he parked the motorcycle in front of the residence the night before but woke up the next day and discovered it missing.

He said he had not given anyone permission to use it.

The affidavit said a description of the motorcycle was taken and entered into the National Crime Information Center.

Police said on August 11 officers were dispatched to a hotel located at 1200 S. 10th Street where the motorcycle may have been located. When police arrived they found the motorcycle that matched the description, and confirmed through the National Crime Information Center that it was, in fact, the motorcycle that was reported stolen.

During an interview with a hotel employee, she would reveal that the individual riding the motorcycle, later identified as being 46-year-old Richardo Vela of Weatherford, had pulled up to the hotel and checked in just 30 minutes before police arrived.

The affidavit said that Vela was located a short time later and arrested and transported to the Custer County Jail.

A preliminary hearing conference for Vela has been scheduled for September 15.
