Weatherford, OK — An 18-year-old charged in connection with the death of Southwestern Oklahoma State University freshman Logan Musil told investigators the student died after an accidental fall during a drug-fueled fight, according to a federal search warrant released Wednesday.

The warrant says agents questioned Cameron Lewis after Musil’s gaming chair and keyboard were found in Lewis’ dorm room. Lewis first told authorities he met Musil on campus, drove him to his home in Purcell on Sept. 12, then dropped him at a residence in Edmond. Investigators said his story changed several times.

OSBI agents reported Lewis was reluctant to surrender his phone. Data from the device led investigators to a wooded area near Veterans Lake in Sulphur, where Musil’s body was found. Lewis later told investigators he and Musil had been high on mushrooms and got into a physical fight. He said Musil fell on a rock, was knocked unconscious, and that he panicked and moved the body into the woods after hearing Musil take his last breath.

According to the warrant, investigators seized an SUV believed to have been used to transport the body. Lewis told agents he threw Musil’s cellphone into the lake.

Lewis is charged with abuse of a corpse. The case remains under investigation.

Background

SWOSU Police asked the OSBI on Oct. 5 to investigate after Musil, 18, was reported missing the night of Sept. 30. On Oct. 8, OSBI, the Murray County Sheriff’s Office, Chickasaw Lighthorse Police, and the National Park Service searched near Veterans Lake in Sulphur and found a deceased adult male. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner identified the victim as Musil. Lewis was arrested Oct. 9 in Weatherford and booked into the Custer County Jail. Federal prosecutors will determine additional charges. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing.
