In its annual list of the most attractive small towns for those looking to buy, Realtor.com identified a number of communities that could be attractive for both investments and those interested in changing up their lifestyle.

Out of 10 communities named throughout the country, Elk City topped the list.

The article stated that the Midwest is well-represented thanks to its affordable home prices and abundance of small towns, and the few areas outside of the Midwest are both scenic and historic.

The article described Elk City as a city that boasts great schools, five museums, large parks with lots of activities, and a walkable downtown full of mom and pop cafes, coffee shops, and boutiques.

It went on to say that Elk City has plenty of stuff to do. But what’s really been drawing new residents to this agricultural community—from neighboring Texas and New Mexico and as far away as Arizona and California—is the ability to spread out.

It added that the median list price of a home was $144,000 and, in the last two years since the pandemic, Elk City has seen an influx of people move into the community.

Other towns on the list included, among others, Sweetwater, Texas, Jamestown, North Dakota, and Berlin, New Hampshire.
