Merritt Girls Golf off to a Great Start

The Merritt girls’ golf team has had a strong start to the week, with impressive performances at both the 22nd annual Ft. Cobb Invitational and Wford. Yesterday at Ft. Cobb, the Oilerettes finished in 2nd place behind Class 5A’s Altus Bulldogs, with freshman Bentli Whitson placing 4th individually with a score of 98. Altus’s Natalie Blonien was the medalist with a score of 72, while Cordell freshman Birdie Brown placed 2nd with a score of 81. Big Pasture’s Kelsey Baber finished 3rd, firing 89.

Whitson continued her excellent play today at Weatherford, finishing 2nd with a score of 47. The Oilerettes weren’t the only ones playing well, as the Oilers were crowned team champions. Mangum’s Cale Zachary was the medalist on the boys’ side with a score of 38.

Baseball and Softball Results from Yesterday

There was plenty of baseball and softball action across Western Oklahoma yesterday. In baseball, Arnett narrowly beat Erick 7-6, while Merritt dominated Eldorado/Olustee with a 15-7 win. BFDC edged Snyder 6-5, Weatherford defeated Canute 7-4, and Hydro-Eakly handled Carnegie 13-4. Navajo blanked Cordell 10-0, Granite beat Leedey 9-1, Mangum outslugged Hobart 17-11, Hollis shutout Sayre 8-0, and Shattuck smoked Vici 10-3.

In slow-pitch softball action, Shattuck dominated AB 16-5, while Arnett beat Cheyenne 11-3. Hammon blanked Beaver 10-0, and BFDC beat Fargo-Gage twice with scores of 4-3 and 5-4. Canute edged Vici 14-13, Hobart won twice with scores of 13-2 over Sentinel and 14-6 against Leedey, and Leedey topped Sentinel 8-2. L-S outlasted Sterling 10-7, while Merritt hammered Sayre 9-1.

Girls and Boys Soccer Results

On the girls’ soccer pitch, Clinton shutout Elk City 2-0, while Weatherford annihilated Classen SAS 10-0. On the boys’ side, Clinton dominated the Elks 7-0, while Wford blanked Classen SAS 3-0.

Overall, it was a great day for sports in Western Oklahoma, with plenty of exciting matchups and impressive performances from athletes across the region.
