Mooreland and Clinton top team winners at Western Oklahoma golf regionals

Mooreland and Clinton winners

Despite challenging conditions, some girls golf regionals were able to conclude play in Western Oklahoma. In the Class 2A Regional held at Riverside golf course in Clinton, Mooreland emerged as the team champion with a score of 354, while Community Christian and Hooker finished second and third respectively to qualify for next week’s state tournament. The Merritt Oilerettes secured the fourth spot and also qualified for the state tournament, with individual scores of Peyton Broadbent’s 91, Bentli Whitson’s 92, Madison Robinson’s 103, Myleigh Flowers’ 111, and Mia Shepard’s 116. Crescent and Mangum rounded up the top six, earning spots at the state tournament.

Meanwhile, two Class 4A regionals were held on the west side of the state, with Clinton and Weatherford emerging as top performers. At the Elk City Golf and Country Club, Clinton claimed the team championship with a score of 346. Elk City came second with a score of 366, while Tuttle finished third to complete the qualifiers for the state tournament. Clinton’s Addison Littke and Tuttle’s Elaina Streber tied for medalist honors after shooting 82, with Littke emerging as the top golfer after a playoff. Weatherford finished second at the Kingfisher regional, shooting 366 and finishing behind Bishop McGuiness’s 328. Sulphur came in third, with Weatherford’s Rachel Carruth shooting 84 and McKinley Elwick finishing with 85.

Individual golfers who qualified for the state tournament include Cordell’s Birdie Brown and Shattuck’s Harley Shoaf, who tied for third overall with identical scores of 85, and Woodward’s Emily Stebens, who earned her spot with a score of 107.
