Merritt’s Basketball Season Ends

It wasn’t the ending anyone wearing the orange and black of the Merritt Oilerettes had envisioned. Merritt rolled in to Friday night’s Area Final against Hooker ranked 3rd in 2A and rolling with 24 straight wins.

Unfortunately, something happened inside the Stride Center in Enid that no one was accustomed to seeing. Merritt was defeated soundly by Hooker on Friday night 50-30.

They still had a chance to punch their ticket Saturday against Pawhuska, but untimely misses from the free throw line late spelled doom for the Oilerettes in a 47-44 loss. Merritt ends the season 24-3, one step away from a return trip to the 2A Girls State Tournament.
