Big Elk baseball is in the driver’s seat of the regional being played right here at Ackley Park.
Elk City run ruled Mt. ST Mary in the first game yesterday 10-0. Drake Hughes went 3-4 with a couple of RBI. Corey Culver was 2/3 knocking in 3. Cooper Church and Austin Jones combined to throw 5 shutout innings on the mound.
The Big Elks then defeated Long Grove yesterday afternoon by the same 10-0 scored. Hughes went 2/4 with a HR and 3 rBI. Kash Mayfield went all 5 innings on the bump, giving up a hit while striking out 8 and walking 2. The two wins put the Elks one win away from their first state tournament appearance since 2004.
Elk City plays the Lone Grove/Byng winner today. That game started at 3:30 and can be seen on Big Elk TV. A win and the Elks are Regional Champs. A loss forces the if necessary game tomorrow afternoon at 1.
