A Game of Inches
Everything looked great for the Elk City Elkettes yesterday at the 5 plex in fast pitch softball district action against Weatherford.
A Glimpse of Victory
Already up 2-0 in the bottom of the fifth, Soph Lu Wyatt did this…. (1:15:57)
Wyatt’s two run bomb gave Elk City a 4-0 lead with 6 outs left to get.
Weatherford’s Resilience
Those outs proved very difficult to get. Harley Chism hit a two run homerun in the top of the 6th to pull Weatherford within two.
A Turn of Events
Then in the top of the 7th, Cydnee Henderson tied the score at 4-4 with a two run double. Dacey Morris completed the comeback with a two run single in the top of the 8th to give the Lady Eagles a 6-4 come from behind win over the Brown and White.
Pitching Duel
Wford’s Marlee Teasley went the distance in the circle giving up 4 runs on 7 hits she struck out 10 with a walk. Chism led wford at the plate going 2-3 with two rbi. Aubrie Pogue is saddled with the loss for Elk City. Shie pitched 8 innings surrendering 6 runs on 5 hits she struck out 15 but walked 4.
District Standings
The win all but solidifies Weatherford as the District champs. The Lady Eagles are 9-0, 3 games ahead of Elk City, Woodward, and Bethany in the loss column. The battle for second will be an important one. Whoever comes out of the 3 way tie will get to host a regional, the other two will have to go on the road. Elk has games with Kingfisher, Bethany, and twice aginst Mt. St. Mary left to play. Both Bethany and Woodward still play each other and still have a game each against Weatherford.
Tight Races in Other Districts
It’s not just the 4A-1 district race coming down to the wire. In Class 2A District 1, Merritt’s on top and finished with district play at 4-2. Texoma is next at 2-1. Magum’s 2-2. Hooker’s 1-4. Texoma and Mangum still have two game left against each other. One mangum win should be enough to give Merritt the district crown. In 2A district 2, Hinton and Hobart are finished with identical 5-1 records. Sayre finishes 3rd while Watonga’s 4th.
