More information has been released regarding an accident on New Years Eve on Turner Turnpike that claimed the life of an Oklahoma City man.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, 74-year-old Thien Tran was standing in the outside lane of traffic near his vehicle at around 1:23p.m. near the Wellston exit when he was struck by two vehicles.

Tran was pronounced dead on the scene.

After an investigation, troopers said 26-year-old Nicholas Korff of Oklahoma City was driving a 2006 Toyota Tundra and successfully avoided hitting the man, however 46-year-old Justin Dobbins of Weatherford was unable to switch lanes due to traffic and was unable to avoid hitting Tran.

Troopers said Tran was hit a second time by a 2023 Freightliner Cascadia driven by 58-year-old Charles Nielson of Gilbert, Arizona.

Dobbins and Nielson were not injured during the collisions. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and their driving conditions were listed as “apparently normal.”

The condition of Tran at the time of the crash is under investigation and OHP said the two drivers cooperated with authorities.
