An Elk City man is in jail after being found with illegal drugs and a gun during a traffic stop.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Elk City Police were dispatched to a possible disturbance in the 200 block of Quail Drive on the night of June 14. While responding, an officer passed a vehicle that matched the description given by the reporting party as the car that the suspect, later identified as being 34-year-old Jose Antonio Acevedo, may be driving. While attempting to make a traffic stop, the affidavit stated that the vehicle proceeded to move forward at a slow rate of speed before coming to a stop.

During a search of the vehicle, the officer would find 27 grams of methamphetamine, and other drug paraphernalia. Officers would also find a handgun under the drivers side seat with the serial numbers removed.

Acevedo was arrested and booked into the Elk City Jail.

He was later charged with trafficking in illegal drugs, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, committing a felony with a firearm with a defaced ID number, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Acevedo’s bond was set at $300,000. A conference hearing for Acevedo has been scheduled for July 19.
