Elk City, OK – August 15th, 2024– The Foundation at Great Plains Regional Medical Center (GPRMC) is excited to announce its long-term goal to raise $800,000 over the next five years to replace the current linear accelerator at West OK Cancer Center. This vital initiative aims to enhance the quality of care provided to patients battling cancer in our community.
The campaign received a significant boost with the success of the 2024 “Evening at the Derby” event, which raised $165,000 towards advancing cancer care in Western Oklahoma. This remarkable achievement is a testament to the generosity and commitment of our donors, sponsors, and the entire Elk City community.
Why Upgrade the Linear Accelerator?
The current linear accelerator at West OK Cancer Center has served our patients well, but advancements in technology now offer the potential for even better outcomes. A new linear accelerator will bring several critical benefits:
1. Expanded Treatment Capabilities: With an upgraded machine, West OK Cancer Center will be able to treat a broader range of cancers with greater precision. This includes more complex and challenging cases that may have previously required referral to distant facilities.
2. Improved Patient Outcomes: The advanced technology of a new linear accelerator allows for more accurate targeting of tumors, minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissue. This precision leads to more effective treatments, fewer side effects, and improved overall patient outcomes.
3. Reduced Treatment Times: Modern linear accelerators can deliver higher doses of radiation in shorter periods, reducing the time patients need to spend in treatment. This efficiency not only improves the patient’s experience but also allows the center to treat more patients each day.
4. Enhanced Comfort and Care: The new equipment will come with improved patient comfort features, ensuring that those undergoing treatment feel as relaxed and supported as possible during a challenging time.
5. Attracting and Retaining Talent: State-of-the-art technology helps in attracting top-tier oncologists and radiologists, ensuring that our community has access to the best possible care close to home.
A Community Effort
The goal of raising $800,000 over the next five years is ambitious, but with the continued support of our generous community, we are confident that we can achieve it. The Foundation at GPRMC will be hosting a series of fundraising events, campaigns, and outreach efforts to bring us closer to this goal.
