SWOSU Press Release

Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) is pleased to announce its upcoming Commencement Ceremony to be held at Milam Stadium in Weatherford on Saturday, May 6 at 10 a.m.

The ceremony will celebrate the academic achievements of students who have completed or will soon complete their degree requirements. Students who completed or will complete associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degrees are eligible to participate in the ceremony.

The Commencement Ceremony will take place outside, marking the first time in seven years that SWOSU will hold its graduation outdoors. However, for those who would prefer an indoor setting, the entire ceremony will be live-streamed inside the Pioneer Cellular Event Center (PCEC) for their comfort and safety.

In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved indoors to the PCEC, and three separate exercises will be held. An announcement about the alternative plan will be made on local radio stations and posted on SWOSU’s website and social media accounts.

The alternative weather schedule will include two undergraduate programs at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. and a graduate program at 1 p.m. The schedule for the ceremonies is as follows:

    • 10 a.m. — Dobson School of Business and Technology (bachelor’s degrees); School of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences (bachelor’s and associate degrees)
    • 1 p.m. — All master’s and Ed.S. Degrees
    • 3 p.m. — College of Arts and Sciences (bachelor’s degrees); School of Behavioral Sciences and Education (bachelor’s and associate degrees)

As part of the commencement program, five alumni will be inducted into the SWOSU Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame during the 2023 Commencement. Dr. Randy Beutler of Canute, Richard Darby of Oklahoma City, Dorothy Gourley of Ardmore, Kirti Vaidya Reddy of Jersey City, and the late Michael Chaloner of Edmond will be honored for their significant contributions to their professions and communities.

Additional information about Commencement, including details about student line-ups for the ceremony, can be found on the SWOSU website: https://bulldog.swosu.edu/commencement/index.php.
