Southwestern Oklahoma State University officials have announced changes to the upcoming spring 2021 semester for both the Weatherford and Sayre campuses.
In a press release, SWOSU officials say the university will start on the regularly scheduled date of January 11 but will not offer a traditional spring break. By doing so, students will end the spring semester one week earlier in April rather than the normal time in May. The last day of the spring semester will now be April 30.
In a statement, SWOSU President Randy Beutler said by switching to this schedule, it is the school’s hope that it will help avoid a possible surge in COVID-19 cases due to travel.
Beutler said the decision was not made easily. Faculty, staff, students and administration were involved in numerous meetings this fall about the spring schedule.
