A Sayre man was arrested and charged recently after striking a police officer.

The incident occurred after authorities were attempting to find the man a ride.

According to a probable cause affidavit, the incident occurred just after midnight on June 14 when Sayre Police were dispatched to a home where the reporting party, the homeowner, claimed there was a man at the home that was a “potential threat”

That man was later identified as being 39-year-old David Ferrill Alexander.

The affidavit stated that when they arrived they found Alexander to allegedly be inebriated, but had a right to be at the home. It was reported that Alexander did, however, agree to leave the scene and return the next day to talk things out with the reporting party.

The affidavit stated that while waiting for a ride, Alexander allegedly made aggressive statements and had struck a Beckham County Sheriff’s Deputy with his right hand.

Alexander was then placed under arrest.

He was charged later that day with one felony count of assault and battery on an officer.

Bond was set at $5,000. His next court date is scheduled for June 26.
