Possible New Sales Tax Discussed at Weatherford

November 2, 2023

During the latest meeting of the Weatherford City Commission on Tuesday, Mayor Mike Brown introduced a new sales tax proposal that would go towards a new aquatic center.

Brown proposed the idea of a new partnership with Great Plains YMCA for the project that would see a community center built that he says would be used for recreation and the aquatic center with an indoor and outdoor pool.

Still in the development stage, the duration or amount of a new sales tax was not discussed.

Commissioners could vote on to put the proposition on the ballot in December. If passed, Weatherford citizens could decide on the matter early next year.

Currently, a half penny sales tax is set to expire on June 30.
