SWOSU Press Release

Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) will be hosting the Parks and Recreation Career and Resource Fair, organized by the Department of Parks and Recreation Management and Career Services. The event will take place on Thursday, March 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Student Ballroom in the Memorial Student Center at SWOSU’s Weatherford campus.

This event offers an excellent opportunity for juniors and seniors in the Parks and Recreation Management, Parks and Wildlife Law Enforcement, and Wildland Fire Management departments to connect with organizations and businesses. The fair provides attendees with access to potential full-time work placements, as well as internships in the industry.

The Parks and Recreation Management, Parks and Wildlife Law Enforcement, and Wildland Fire Management departments at SWOSU offer programs that prepare students for careers in different areas of outdoor recreation and conservation.

The Parks and Recreation Management undergraduate program helps prepare students for careers in a variety of professional parks and recreation settings, as well as leisure studies, recreation therapy, and outdoor recreation. The Parks and Wildlife Law Enforcement degree prepares students to seek employment with a variety of federal, state, and municipal natural resource recreation management agencies. These graduates are qualified to seek regular law enforcement positions. The Wildland Fire Management degree prepares students for state and federal wildland firefighting careers while also ensuring that students exit the program with several National Wildfire Coordinating Group certifications.

The Career and Resource Fair features individual mock interview sessions and open networking time. With many prominent agencies from across the country attending the fair, including the Alaska State Troopers, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, National Park Service, city agencies, and fire departments, students can expect to broaden their industry knowledge and connect with potential employers.

We are confident that this event will provide valuable insights and networking opportunities for our students.
