Memorial Day ceremonies are being planned around the country for Monday, one of which is taking place at Fairlawn Cemetery in Elk City.

Beckham County Sheriff Derek Manning says a ceremony honoring local veterans will take place at the cemetery with Gene Smith acting as this year’s keynote speaker.

The ceremony will begin at the Veterans Memorial at the cemetery at 10:30 a.m. with members of the Elk City High School Choir singing, and a flag lowering ceremony presented by the Elk City High School FFA.
