The Beckham County Sheriff and his staff is preparing a new budget for the office says Sheriff Derek Manning.

With the current fiscal year coming to an end on June 30, by law the office must have a new budget in place, and approved before the new fiscal year begins on July 1.

Manning says it is a tedious process but believes that transparency in his department’s spending is important. He reminds the public that the budget is mainly comprised of two things: sales tax, which carries over, and the general fund – which does not carry over.

Manning says even after he turns in a budget to the county commission, it may be up to two months after the fiscal year has begun before he knows what the approved budget for his department is.
