Doctors have cleared Rep. Frank Lucas to return to Washington D.C. after suffering an injury on his Roger Mills County ranch.

The longtime politician from Cheyenne suffered the injury last month that required surgery in Oklahoma City to repair a broken hip.

The surgery was to repair a break in the socket.

This isn’t the first time the Congressman has been injured while working on his ranch.

Lucas was injured by cattle at least twice previously during his time in Congress. In 1996, his nose was broken when a cow kicked a gate into his face. And in 2003, he lost a tooth and needed emergency root canal surgery when he butted heads with a heifer.

Lucas has served in the House since 1994 and is the senior member of the Oklahoma congressional delegation. His district includes much of western Oklahoma and parts of Oklahoma County. Lucas is chairman of the House Science, Space and Technology Committee.

Lucas is expected to return to D.C. and get back to work on Wednesday.
