The Oklahoma Transportation Commission met Monday and approved $863 million that Oklahoma intends to spend in the coming few years on making more improvements to bridges and county improvements under the County Improvements for Roads and Bridges Plan. The expenditures will be carried out for Fiscal Years 2025 through 2029.

Designed by the state Legislature to address deficient county infrastructure, the latest plan is set to replace or rehabilitate 176 county bridges – of which 79 are structurally deficient or functionally obsolete – and to improve 408 miles of roadway in the next five years.

This includes approval of nearly $9 million for Kiowa County work leading into the city of Hobart.

The approved project will go towards the widening, grading and resurfacing of East 1370 Road that turns into Iris Street beginning at SH-44 Exit and continuing 4.5 miles to Hobart city limits.

Other approved funds for projects in the plan include three bridge projects in Beckham County totaling just under $1.3 million, and three projects in Custer County totaling at just under $8.2 million.
