The “People’s Convoy”, a group of truckers currently on a cross-country trip from California to the Washington D.C. area will make a stop in Elk City tomorrow (Saturday).

The convoy’s goal is to arrive in the nation’s capitol with plans to hold a protest demanding that all COVID 19-related mandates are lifted across the country.

Organizer Maureen Steele said the group that consists of at least 200 trucks, and around 200 RVs plans to stay overnight at the old SFI yard off of Exit 40 in Elk City, and the public is invited to greet the truckers.

The convoy is inspired by the protesters of the Freedom Convoy in Canada, who occupied Ottawa for 24 days and blocked various border crossings into the U.S. to protest the country’s pandemic restrictions, particularly the federal vaccine mandate for cross-border commercial truck drivers. This past Sunday, Ottawa police cleared out the remaining demonstrators, arresting 191 people and towing 57 vehicles after more than three weeks of protests. Steele said with that in mind, the convoy’s final destination has not been announced.

The convoy plans to leave Elk City Sunday morning and head east to their next overnight stop in Vinita.

The convoy plans to be in the Washington D.C. area by the evening of March 5.
