Fire Crews Battle Marijuana Grow Building Blaze

Elk City Fire Department personal along with assistance from the Beckham County Sheriff’s Office responded to a structure fire early Tuesday afternoon north of Elk City.

Elk City Fire Chief Kyle Chervenka says crews were originally called out to a vehicle fire at a marijuana grow operation north of Elk City, just off of Pioneer Road, but when they arrived, the found two buildings on fire.

Chief Chervenka said due to the concern of unknown chemicals inside one of the buildings, crews had to take a stand off approach until they determined it was safe to enter the building.

Chervenka says although it appears that the vehicle catching fire between the structures may be the cause, it still remains under investigation.

No injuries were reported.
