An Elk City man is being held in the Beckham County Detention Center after being charged with possession of a firearm following a felony conviction.
According to court records, 39-year-old Malcolm Douglas Wilson was arrested on August 20 and formally charged on August 27. The investigation, which began in May, revealed that a man had contacted the Elk City Police Department, concerned that firearms he had received as collateral might be stolen. The man identified Wilson, his neighbor, as the person who left the guns to settle a debt. While the firearms were found not to be stolen, detectives discovered that Wilson, as a convicted felon, was prohibited from owning firearms.
Wilson later told police that the guns came from his girlfriend and had been purchased at a gun show. Despite this, detectives determined that Wilson had broken the law by possessing two firearms.
Wilson’s bond was set at $13,500, and his preliminary hearing conference has been continued to October 7. If convicted, Wilson faces up to ten years in prison. He has a prior felony conviction for witness intimidation.
