An Elk City man was arrested recently after allegedly setting up credit cards in his elderly mother’s name and spending nearly $275,000.

A probable cause affidavit shows that Elk City Police were notified by the victim of the possible fraudulent activity on December 21, 2022. Then, police were told that 54-year-old Preston Craig Clowdus had added his name onto his mother’s banking, and credit card accounts without her knowledge, and had the two credit cards linked to the bank account.

An investigation revealed that purchases using the cards, mainly online, took place between May 2022 and December 2022.

The affidavit showed that a search warrant was served at the suspect’s home on March 20. There authorities would find electronics, documentation, and a credit card all linked to the case.

Clowdus was arrested on site without incident.

He was charged with, among other things, exploitation of an elderly person, and possession of a stolen credit card.

Bond was initially set at $50,000. His next court date is scheduled to take place May 8.
