BKSO Press Release

Beckham County deputies joined in an exercise last Friday at the old Clarion Inn in Elk City for a joint exercise sponsored by Elk City Police and Fire Departments. Sheriff Derek Manning said the exercise was beneficial in many ways.

This was some very effective training, because it was more than just training,” said Manning. “It was a cooperative exercise designed to be as realistic as possible. It let us look at everything from radio frequencies to response times. We found the things that worked well and the things we need to tweak and improve. The more exercises like this we do together, the more ready we are for what we hope never happens.”

Manning expressed his thanks to Danny Britton and the WTC staff, the Elk City Police and Fire Departments, the SWOSU nursing program for providing students to act as victims, and to Joe D. Hall, who provided the Clarion for the first responders to use as a training venue.
