National gasoline prices have taken a jump upward in the past week and they’re doing the same in western Oklahoma.

According to AAA Oklahoma, the state’s average as of Wednesday is $2.91 which is 18 cents higher than one week ago. However, it is lower than the $2.93 average reported a month ago and still 2 cents cheaper than the $2.87 average recorded one year ago.

At one point in December only a few counties in Oklahoma had averages of $3 a gallon or more. Now 15 counties are above the $3 mark including Roger Mills County averaging $3.03 per gallon. Dewey County is averaging $3.08 and Ellis County is averaging $3.18 per gallon – the second highest in the state.

AAA shows that other counties in the area are lower with Beckham County averaging $2.90 per gallon, the lowest in the state. Custer County is just under $3 at $2.99 while Washita County is averaging $2.97 per gallon.

So now that the New Year is here, consumers are now asking: how much can we expect to pay at the pump in 2023?

Some observers believe the lowest prices for the year will likely occur in February with a national average of $2.99 per gallon, but prices could hit $4 for a gallon of gas during the peak of travel season next summer.
