Watonga, OK – A fatal crash west of Watonga claimed the life of a Woodward man early Tuesday morning, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
The wreck happened around 7:04 a.m. on U.S. Highway 270, just west of County Road North 2470 in Blaine County—about 9 miles west of Watonga.
Troopers say 51-year-old Ronald Clayton Irvin of Woodward was driving a 2016 Nissan Altima eastbound when his vehicle crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a 2021 Kenworth semi.
Irvin was pronounced dead at the scene by Eagle City Fire Department personnel. His passenger, 43-year-old Chrischalla Ann Crawford of Fargo, was flown to OU Medical Center by AirEvac. She was admitted in stable condition with internal injuries to her trunk.
The semi driver, 49-year-old Johnathan Issac Peden of Gillette, Wyoming, was not injured.
Both Irvin and Crawford were pinned inside the Altima and had to be extricated using the Hurst tool by Eagle City Fire crews. Seatbelts were in use by all involved. No one was ejected.
The cause of the crash is listed as crossing the centerline. The condition of Irvin at the time of the crash is still under investigation. Weather and road conditions were reported to be clear and dry.
