Woman Pleads No Contest to Impersonating Teacher in Racially Charged Facebook Case

A woman accused of impersonating a Clinton Public Schools teacher to send racially charged messages has entered a plea.

Authorities allege that Casee Hughes sent the messages in 2022 using an account created with the victim’s first and last name. Hughes is accused of impersonating the teacher on Facebook and sending racist messages in October of that year.

The teacher claimed her Facebook account had been hacked when a racially charged message was sent to a parent from her profile. According to a probable cause affidavit, the teacher informed Clinton Police that on the morning of October 11, 2022, she woke up to messages from friends alerting her that her account had been compromised.

The teacher stated that the first suspicious message she saw was posted on the Clinton High School Facebook page from another profile on October 14, 2022. The post included a screenshot from a TikTok user. Shortly thereafter, the teacher reported receiving threatening messages from the public directed at her and her family.

During the investigation, the teacher was placed on administrative leave. She suspected that her boyfriend’s ex-girlfriend, Casee Hughes, was behind the messages, citing prior harassment by Hughes on Facebook on October 11.

The affidavit reveals that on January 3, 2023, police obtained information from TikTok, which indicated the video in question was created on October 14, 2022. The TikTok account had been registered using an email address containing Hughes’ first and last name. Police linked the account to Hughes through a receipt for petit larceny in Moore, Oklahoma.

On April 5, 2023, a warrant was issued for Hughes on charges of falsely impersonating another to create liability and computer fraud/unlawful use of a computer system.

Hughes has pleaded no contest to both felony charges and is scheduled to be sentenced on January 22.
