By News Director Jared Atha

The winter storm that rolled into western Oklahoma late Wednesday afternoon continues to hang out in the area and has caused adverse driving conditions and has forced schools in the area to close it’s doors on Friday.

KOCO Meteorologist Damon Lane says the final wave of snow will move in and out of the area tonight.

Snow totals have varied across the region with areas in the southwest part of the state receiving the most snow. As of 2:30 p.m. Thursday Hobart had reported 5.9 inches of snow while Elk City got just over 2.5 inches.

The National Weather Service in Norman says the winter weather advisory in the area is set to expire at 6 p.m. tonight, however the wind chill advisory will remain in affect until noon Friday. Meteorologist say wind chills Friday morning will be anywhere between -8 degrees and in some parts of northwest Oklahoma -13 degrees.

Area schools have chosen to not have class on Friday as well.

As of press time, it has been reported to Paragon Communications that all campuses of Western Technology Center will be closed, as well as school districts in Elk City, Canute, Mangum, Merritt, Cordell, Sayre, Clinton, Arapaho-Butler, and Hammon.

Tune in tomorrow morning to both The Early Morning Show on KECO or the Mountain Drew Show on Kool 94 for update cancellations and postponements.
