Weatherford, OK – A Weatherford woman is facing a felony after a short police pursuit on Saturday, Oct. 18, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Custer County District Court.

Prosecutors charged Janel Frances Harper, 33, in the case with endangering others while eluding or attempting to elude a police officer. The case was filed Oct. 20.

Police were called to the 1300 block of Crimson Drive that night on a suspicious vehicle. An officer reported finding a white 2012 Chevrolet Impala. The driver, later identified as Harper, rolled up her window and drove away, failing to signal and stopping improperly at Davis and Crimson.

The officer activated lights and siren as the Impala turned onto Washington. The affidavit states the driver did not stop, passed several vehicles, and swerved around a marked patrol vehicle positioned ahead near Cypress and Washington. A tactical vehicle intervention near Washington and Eads disabled the car. Officers detained Harper and took her to the Weatherford City Jail.

In addition to the felony count, the affidavit lists two traffic complaints. Fail to signal intent to turn. Fail to stop at the proper location for a stop sign.

The filing states the felony is punishable by one to five years in prison and or a fine between 1,000 and 5,000 dollars.
