Weatherford, OK – Two 19-year-old Weatherford men are facing criminal charges after a late-night disturbance led to the recovery of stolen firearms and allegations of violent threats.
Court records show that Sonny Ray Allen Armstrong-Mendez and Tyler Frank Sosa were both arrested following an incident on May 25, when a man allegedly pointed a gun at two individuals who had come looking for a missing 16-year-old girl believed to be at Armstrong-Mendez’s Weatherford apartment.
According to the probable cause affidavit, the two visitors—a man and a woman—told police they knocked on the apartment door around 10:13 PM and were met by a man who aimed a gun at them and told them to leave.
Police arrived shortly after and found Armstrong-Mendez and Sosa walking nearby. Neither was armed at the time, but both were taken into custody for questioning.
The next day, officers executed a search warrant on the apartment. Inside, they found two loaded firearms: a black Glock .22 caliber handgun in the refrigerator and a stolen .40 caliber Glock pistol hidden under a couch cushion. The latter matched a previous theft report from El Reno.
During interviews, Armstrong-Mendez denied involvement with any weapons, claiming no gun was pointed during the encounter. Sosa, however, told investigators he saw the weapon and confirmed Armstrong-Mendez had it at the time.
Both men now face charges in Custer County District Court. Armstrong-Mendez is charged with Feloniously Pointing a Firearm and Knowingly Receiving or Concealing Stolen Property. Sosa faces two misdemeanors: Knowingly Receiving or Concealing Stolen Property and Threaten to Perform Act of Violence.
Authorities noted that Armstrong-Mendez has a prior record and is legally barred from possessing firearms.
Both suspects are due back in court on June 18, 2025.
