The man arrested Thursday after allegedly attacking a family member has been charged in Beckham County District Court.

According to court records, 48-year-old Elias Fuentes III was charged Monday with assault and battery with intent to kill after the defendant allegedly attacked the family member with a knife.

As a result the victim was flown to an Oklahoma City area hospital with serious wounds.

After the attack, Beckham County Sheriff’s Deputies were told that Fuentes had left the home in a pickup that belonged to another family member.

According to Beckham County Sheriff Derek Manning his deputies and other law enforcement, including troopers and deputies from Washita County, immediately began a search for the man, and he was located south of Carter less than two hours after the attack.

Manning said Fuentes would lead authorities on a brief pursuit that ended near the Carter Fire Department.

Manning said the suspect exited his vehicle and began to move toward officers, but then complied with orders and was arrested without incident.

Along with the assault and battery charge, Fuentes was charged with endangering others while eluding or attempt to elude, larceny of an automobile, disrupt, prevent, or interrupt an emergency phone call and driving with a suspended or revoked license.
