Weatherford, OK – The Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) Department of Nursing recently hosted its in-person orientation for the nursing class of 2027 on Tuesday, April 29. The event welcomed students who have been accepted into the program, along with individuals currently on the waitlist. These students will begin their nursing coursework in the Fall 2025 semester. The orientation offers information and resources to help them understand program expectations, meet faculty and peers, and begin organizing materials required for their clinical and academic responsibilities.
Throughout the orientation, students rotated in groups through six informational stations, each led by SWOSU Nursing faculty. These stations addressed a range of important topics, including clinical compliance, uniform standards, required supplies, education expectations, additional paperwork, and a photo booth where students could take pictures to commemorate the occasion. Faculty members at each station provided printed materials and gave detailed explanations of requirements, deadlines, and procedures that students will encounter once the semester begins. The sessions were designed to give students a clear picture of what lies ahead while also helping them begin the semester with confidence.
The clinical compliance station focused on necessary documentation such as CPR certification, tuberculosis testing, and immunization records. Uniform standards were reviewed in detail, including what qualifies as acceptable attire during clinical rotations and what students should avoid. Information about required supplies was also shared, and students received badge reels for use during future clinical assignments. Additional paperwork, expectations related to academic performance, and course policies were also covered during the rotation.

The orientation concluded with an open Q&A session, giving students the chance to clarify details, raise concerns, and build early connections with faculty and fellow classmates. This setting allowed for open dialogue and helped students leave the event with a better understanding of what to expect as they move forward in the program.
