SWOSU Press Release
Weatherford, OK – Twenty-two students from the Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) Department of Biological and Biomedical Sciences presented their research at the 2025 Annual Technical Meeting of the Oklahoma Academy of Science, held at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa.
The group attended the statewide gathering with faculty mentors Dr. Renan Bosque, Dr. Rickey Cothran, Dr. Marcella Santos, and Dr. Daniel Rocha, who guide undergraduate research within the department and support student participation in professional conferences.
Students participated through oral presentations and scientific posters covering work in zoology, genetics, ecology, physiology, cancer research, evolution, and environmental science. The meeting provided an opportunity for students to share their findings, receive feedback from scientists from across the state, and participate in discussions with peers from Oklahoma colleges and universities. Their involvement reflects the department’s emphasis on undergraduate research and hands-on learning experiences.
The Oklahoma Academy of Science, founded in 1909, promotes scientific scholarship and education across the state. Its Annual Technical Meeting brings together students, faculty, and researchers from multiple disciplines to exchange ideas, learn about ongoing studies, and encourage collaboration between Oklahoma colleges and universities. Participation in the event gives SWOSU students a chance to connect their classroom and laboratory training with statewide research efforts and professional communities in their fields of interest.
