Elk City, OK — A Sweetwater man is facing a long list of serious felony charges after a violent confrontation in an Elk City alleyway that involved multiple victims and a dog. According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Beckham County District Court, 22-year-old Mark James Porter has been charged with assault and battery, sexual battery, burglary, kidnapping, and public intoxication.
The incident occurred the evening of May 1, when Elk City Police were dispatched to the alley behind the 1oo block of Brookview Drive after reports of a man attacking a woman and attempting to steal a dog. Officers located Porter, who appeared intoxicated, in the alley and took him into custody. Witnesses told police he had entered the residence without permission, attacked multiple women inside, and attempted to abduct a dog.
Witnesses say Porter allegedly forcibly kissed, groped, and assaulted several women in the home before punching one in the face and dragging another by the hair and neck while trying to take the dog. One woman reported that Porter forced his hands inside her clothing. According to the affidavit, Porter admitted to some of the allegations during transport.
Victim statements detailed a chaotic and violent scene, with Porter allegedly entering the home uninvited, shoving people, yelling incoherently, and physically assaulting multiple individuals before attempting to flee with the dog. The report indicates Porter’s behavior was fueled by alcohol.
Porter was transported to the hospital for a medical clearance before being booked into the Beckham County Detention Center. His bond has been set at $300,000.
His next court appearance is scheduled for May 19.
