Oklahoma City, OK – The Oklahoma Department of Transportation has named Elk City native Will Snipes as the new District 5 Engineer for western Oklahoma.

Snipes, a 1994 graduate of Elk City High School, will oversee all maintenance and construction operations across the 11-county district. His responsibilities include leading the district’s engineering and field personnel, coordinating major infrastructure projects, and ensuring the safety and reliability of the state’s highway system. District 5 covers Custer, Roger Mills, Beckham, Harmon, Greer, Jackson, Dewey, Washita, Kiowa, Tillman, and Blaine counties, as well as 104 miles of Interstate 40.

Snipes has spent most of his professional career with ODOT. He began as a summer engineering intern during the 1990s before being hired full time in 2000 following college graduation. He first worked at the Clinton Residency before being promoted to District 5 Construction Engineer in 2010, a role he held until earlier this year.

He succeeds former District 5 Engineer Brent Almquist, who announced his retirement last June after a 43-year career with ODOT.
