Beckham County Sheriff Derek Manning says it has been indicated to him that no charges will be filed against law enforcement that were involved in the fatal shooting of a pursuit suspect last May.

One of those individuals was a Beckham County Deputy who Manning says will be back on active duty after the District Attorney’s Office notified him last week.

The incident occurred on May 12 when Elk City Police began looking for a man after reports indicated that he made threats at a local car dealership.

The man was allegedly attempting to trade in a stolen vehicle that had California plates, but was denied by a salesman.

After being located, a pursuit began that eventually found its way to the south side of Canute where the car he was driving became disabled.

After a standoff, the man allegedly began shooting at authorities, where they would return fire and eventually strike and kill the suspect.

No officers were hurt during the shooting.
