Norman, OK – Western Oklahoma faces the threat of severe storms Monday afternoon through early Tuesday morning, with Beckham, Washita, Custer, and Roger Mills Counties all under the gun for damaging weather.
The National Weather Service in Norman has placed Elk City, Clinton, Weatherford, and surrounding communities under an “Enhanced” to “Moderate” risk for severe thunderstorms. Timing for the worst weather in these areas is most likely between 6 PM and 2 AM.
Primary concerns include large hail (up to baseball size possible), damaging winds over 70 mph, and a medium threat for tornadoes. The tornado index is particularly elevated near Clinton and Hobart, where strong tornadoes could develop.
Residents should stay weather aware, have multiple ways to receive warnings, and be ready to act quickly if tornado warnings are issued.
