Sayre Man in Critical Condition After I-40 Wrong Way Accident

A Sayre man was critically injured in a two vehicle accident on Interstate 40, west of Elk City Thursday morning.

According to the collision report provided by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol the accident was a result of a vehicle driving westbound in the eastbound lanes.

OHP says the accident occurred 2 miles west of Elk City just before 7 a.m. when while the 2007 Chevy Cobalt driven by 22-year-old Jonathan E. Dicus of Sayre struck a 2018 Kenworth semi head on while driving the wrong way on the interstate.

Discus had to be extracted by crews with the Elk City Fire Department with the Hurst tool after being pinned inside the vehicle for approximately 10 minutes.

As a result of the crash, troopers said Discus was transported to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City where he was admitted in critical condition with head, trunk internal, arm, and leg injuries.

The driver of the semi was not injured.
