A Sayre man was arrested recently after violating a protective order when he sent threatening text messages to his grandmother.

According to the probable cause affidavit for arrest, 37-year-old Patrick Ryan Carey was arrested on July 28 when the victim reported to deputies with the Beckham County Sheriff’s Office that she had been receiving text messages from a phone number that she believed to be from her grandson.

While speaking with the woman, she would receive more messages from the number.

The deputy would call the number a short time later, where the male subject who answered the call identified himself as being Patrick Carey. Later deputies would arrive at Carey’s residence to interview the subject. There Carey allegedly admitted that it was indeed him who sent the text messages to his grandmother.

Due to violating a previous protective order filed against him, Carey was arrested and booked into the Beckham County Jail.

He was charged on August 3 with planning, attempting, or conspiring to perform an act of violence – a felony, and violation of a protective order.

A Beckham County judge set Carey’s bond at $20,000 and ordered the suspect to have no contact with the alleged victim.
