It was seven years ago today (May 16, 2017) Elk City experienced one of it’s worst natural disasters in city history when a tornado ravaged the south side, destroying or damaging multiple homes near the Elk City Golf and Country Club.

Unfortunately the tornado did claim one life in the rural area near Carter.

Elk City Police Chief Eddie Holland, who has experience responding to natural disasters, recalls the moments after the tornado and the response from local emergency personal.

Chief Holland also credited city crews for their efforts in helping organize and clean up debris in the days after the tornado.

He added that as chaotic as that day was – the organizational effort afterwards was smooth.

The EF-2 rated tornado also destroyed the club house at the golf course, which has since been rebuilt.
